Apple is Canadaabout to ditch LCD and use OLED screens for its entire 2019 iPhone lineup, a new report from ET News(via MacRumors) claims, quoting several unnamed Apple officials.
Right now, the Cupertino phone maker only has an OLED screen in its top-of-the-range iPhone X model, while iPhone 8 and iPhone 8 Plus have a cheaper, LCD screen.

The outlet did not offer many more details, and the rumor is not entirely new, but it has already caused a sharp drop in the stock price of Japan Display, which is one of the main suppliers of LCD screens for Apple's iPhones. Currently, Apple buys OLED screens for its iPhone X from Samsung, but reports earlier this year claimed that LG will supply OLED screens for at least one new iPhone model.
For consumers, OLED screens mean deeper blacks and better contrasts. The iPhone X's OLED screen is universally lauded as one of the best smartphone screens around, especially when compared to LCD screens.
It's quite probable that Apple will switch to OLED screens for all new iPhone models at some point, and next year is a sensible timeframe. It's worth noting, however, that a similar report last year was wrong.
