Liquor laws will be Dear Utol (2025): Chick! Episode 47the one thing keeping Amazon Go in the low-tech past.
The grocery store with no cashiers and no checkout lines will sell alcohol, requiring a human to check IDs, Recodereported on Tuesday.
The publication spotted an application for a liquor license in the window of Amazon's Seattle store, and Amazon confirmed that it plans to sell beer and wine. An Amazon spokesperson confirmed that report to Mashable.
“When we start offering beer and wine, there will be an associate checking identification,” an Amazon spokesperson told Recode.
Amazon unveiled its plans for Amazon Go with a video showing its vision for grocery shopping in December. Customers enter the stores by checking in with their smartphones, which will track everything customers take from shelves and charge their Amazon accounts after they walk out.
In the video, that meant shopping for sandwiches, yogurt and soda, but soon customers will be able to grab a beer without waiting in line.
The store in Seattle is Amazon's first, tested in a pilot program with Amazon employees. The store is supposed to open to the Seattle public in early 2017, but no date confirmed is by Amazon yet.
Beer by Amazon Go, coming soon?
