There's nothing as annoying as the iPhone shutting down your background apps while you're working on Spideypool XXX Parodysomething else. OK, that's hyperbole, but it's still annoying.
Which is why iPhone users should be glad to download iOS 13.2.2. It fixes the bug that killed background apps, and brings a couple of other improvements. Straight from Apple's mouth, iOS 13.2.2:
Fixes an issue that could cause apps to quit unexpectedly when running in the background
Resolves an issue where iPhone may temporarily lose cellular service after a call
Addresses an issue where cellular data may temporarily not be available
Fixes an issue that caused replies to S/MIME encrypted email messages between Exchange accounts to be unreadable
Addresses an issue where using Kerberos single sign-on service in Safari may present an authentication prompt
Resolves an issue where charging may be interrupted on Yubikey Lightning-powered accessories
The issue with background apps getting shut down too quickly isn't just a matter of convenience. You could actually lose your data or, at the very least, progress in a game you were playing (which, frankly, can be even more maddening).
This is all nice and dandy, but there could be an unwanted consequence to this update: A decrease in battery life. While having background apps shut down too fast isn't good, it probably did save a bit of battery life; now that the apps linger on longer, they'll also drain more battery. It's too early to tell, but if we notice a difference, we'll let you know.
SEE ALSO: Next year’s iPhone will reportedly be similar to iPhone 4Ever since the launch of iOS 13, Apple has been throwing updates at iPhone owners at an unprecedented pace. Hopefully this latest one doesn't introduce any new bugs.
The iOS version 13.2.2 upgrade should be available in your iPhone's settings menu. Owners of newer iPads should see the same update option in their settings as well.
