Chinese phone brand Oppo announced on Comedy ArchivesThursday that it has signed a global patent licensing agreement with Volkswagen Group, granting access to its cellular standard-essential patents (SEPs), including 5G technologies. The agreement covers Volkswagen’s global product portfolio and aims to enhance the user experience of its connected vehicles worldwide. This marks Oppo’s first bilateral patent licensing deal with an automaker. According to LexisNexis IPlytics, a patent analytics platform, Oppo ranked eighth worldwide in overall 5G patent strength as of January 2025. [Oppo]
