From April 2 through May 13, the telecom will automatically increase mobile hotspot data by 15GB a month for each line on an unlimited plan (that currently includes a monthly tethering allotment). For instance, those on the Unlimited Elite plan will receive 45GB a month of tethering per line.
"AT&T's commitment … is to keep our customers and employees connected in these unprecedented times—whether that's a video call to a loved one, learning in a virtual classroom, collaborating with colleagues or streaming your favorite shows," David Christopher, executive vice president and general manager of AT&T Mobility, said in a statement.
Wireless carriers and ISPs have been expanding service plans and improving data capacity during the COVID-19 pandemic. AT&T recently chipped in by lifting data caps for broadband subscribers who otherwise could end up paying upwards of $100 for additional coverage. The company also launched a new prepaid service plan, offering unlimited talk and text plus 2GB of data for $15 a month. If you exceed that limit, though, expect your data to be throttled (but not entirely cut off). Plus, AT&T is topping up existing prepaid and Cricket subscribers' plans by 10GB for the next two months, while new subscribers get an additional 10GB for one month (excluding that 2GB plan).
In the market for a new device? Purchase or upgrade online for free express shipping and AT&T will waive or credit its activation, upgrade, and restocking fees. Wireless customers can also get 20 percent off accessories when ordering online. And in an effort to reduce human interaction, AT&T encourages folks to visit its digital store or use the MyAT&T app and take advantage of new fast-free, no-contract delivery options—including curb-side pickup and doorstep drop off.
