The Watch Wet Woman in the Wind (2016)Little Mermaidwill be part of ABC's world next season.
The beloved Disney movie will get a live musical makeover -- but unlike the Broadway version of the show (and the two movie remakes currently in production), it won't be a full adaptation to live action.
Instead, much like Ariel herself, the show will be a hybrid -- combining live-action performances with the animated film and using "cutting edge technology" to bring the musical to life, per ABC.
The new special, titled The Wonderful World of Disney: The Little Mermaid Live, will debut on Tuesday, Oct. 3 and feature a roster of celebrity artists, "whose performances will weave seamlessly throughout the original animated film," according to a network release.
Disney attempted something similar at Los Angeles' Hollywood Bowl last year with The Little Mermaid Live concert, playing the animated film on screen at the venue with accompaniment from a live orchestra and performances from stars including Darren Criss, Rebel Wilson, Tituss Burgess and Sara Bareilles on stage during the musical numbers.
