SEE ALSO: Androids will pair with Bluetooth headsets with just a tap, no more fussing with settingsThe Samsung Experience 9.0 is built on Android Oreo, which is thus far only available on Google's own Pixel and Nexus devices. Like other OS preview programs, Samsung will use gather information and feedback from the test population to improve the software, with a particular focus in this case on performance and usability. The company says that the final version of the OS will launch on the next "flagship Galaxy device."
This is the first shot at Android Oreo for Galaxy S8 owners, but there are some limitations to be eligible for the program. The beta is only available for Galaxy S8 and S8+ owners in the Samsung's native country of South Korea, along with the UK and the U.S.
UK S8 owners are only eligible if they have an unlocked device. U.S. S8 owners can have devices through Sprint or T-Mobile's networks, or have an unlocked device.
Potential beta testers have to hold an active Samsung Account to apply for the program, which is available via the Samsung Members or Samsung+ app depending on the region. Samsung says the beta's test period differs by country and could change, and offers more information on its Members FAQ pages for each territory.
