Spencer has been described as "arguably the father" of the alt-right. He founded a web magazine called Alternative Right in 2010 and currently heads up the National Policy Institute, a think tank that is a pillar of "academic racism."
At a recent conference in Washington, D.C., he was videotaped extending a right hand and yelling, "Hail Trump!" And at a recent appearance at Texas A&M, attended by numerous protesters, he said, "At the end of the day, America belongs to white men."
Spencer's account was one of many -- including other accounts Spencer held like the Institute's (@npiamerica) and his online magazine (@radixjournal) -- that were suspended in mid-November by Twitter.
In a statement to Mashable at the time, a Twitter spokesperson said: "The Twitter Rules prohibit violent threats, harassment, hateful conduct, and multiple account abuse, and we will take action on accounts violating those policies."
On Sunday, a Twitter spokesperson confirmed to Mashablethat Spencer's account was suspended because he violated the "multiple account abuse" aspect of the policy.
The spokesperson told Mashablevia email, "Our rules explicitly prohibit creating multiple accounts with overlapping uses. When we temporarily suspend multiple accounts for this violation, the account owner can designate one account for reinstatement."
Spencer's reinstatement had many opponents angry.

Hello,
As referenced in our November 18, 2016 communication, creating serial and/or multiple accounts with overlapping use is a violation of the Twitter Rules (https://twitter.com/rules).
Please select one account for restoration; the others will remain suspended. This account will need to comply fully with the Twitter Rules (https://twitter.com/rules). Please reply to this email with the username of the account you would like reinstated and we will make sure to answer your request in a timely manner.
Thanks,
Since his reinstatement, Spencer has been tweeting up a storm and told one follower he plans to try to get his other suspended accounts back online.
