Supposedly, Mail in iOS 11 gives notifications just as fast as the official Gmail app. If you have the beta, the trick to the new update is selecting the "Automatically" fetch schedule option on you iPhone. According to 9to5Mac, here's how to solve your problems:

Using your Google/Gmail account with Mail on iOS 11:

1. Go to Settings→ Accounts & Passwords

2. Select Add Account

3. Select Google

4. Input your credentials

5. Return to Accounts & Passwords

6. Select Fetch New Data

7. Select the Automaticallyschedule under Fetch

The only downfall appears to be the fact that your iPhone's Mail app will only automatically fetch your mail only when on power and Wi-Fi. Still, it's a huge step up from our ancient, lagging iOS 10 mail.
